In life we face many challenges, decisions and choices. For some people this is a very exciting aspect of life, they find within themselves a tap which when turned on produces an endless supply of positiveness, motivation and focus, often against very difficult circumstances that they themselves have not engendered.
We all greatly admire these people, they are the true heroes of this world. But what about little me and maybe little you?
Our lives aren’t reflecting this heroism or just maybe in God’s sight we are!! Maybe all of humanity are heroes in the wider perspective of life and death.
I’m reading a secular autobiography at the moment of a man that thirty years ago was part of a six man crew in the Fastnet yacht race that encountered an absolutely horrendous off the scale storm in the Irish sea. In a nutshell he recalls all his fearful and glorious experiences of a lone survival as he gains consciousness after a head injury and finds all the rest of the crew gone.
With tremendous courage and determination to live, with moments of abject despair, this man did survive to tell his heroic story – he did say at one point that his mother had a strong faith, going to church every Sunday. So in that light was it the power of prayer that brought him through – only God knows the answer.
But for little me and maybe little you, we can be heroines to our family, friends and community by trusting God moment by moment and stepping out courageously into the challenges that the Lord is requesting us to face and overcome.
Read this passage from “Streams in the Desert”
Human strength and human greatness spring not from life’s sunny side,
Heroes must be more than driftwood floating on a waveless tide.
Do not be afraid for I have redeemed you, I have called you by My name, you are mine.
When you walk through the waters, I’ll be with you.
You will never sink beneath the waves.
When the fire is burning all around you, you will never be consumed by the flames
When the fear of loneliness is looming, then remember I am at your side.
Be the extra-ordinary person that Jesus ordained you to be!
